Delayed, Not Denied: Our Miracle of Parenthood

Every couple dreams of the day when they'll start a family, shortly after getting married. We were no different. The early years of our marriage were filled with the promise of love, dreams, and the hope of building a family. We had plans and a vision of buying a house in an idyllic neighborhood, traveling, then trying for children after a few years. Little did we know that God had a different path in store for us. The first few years of our marriage were overshadowed by financial instability and a season of homelessness, which put a lot of our dreams (including having children) on hold.

During our literal tribulation season, as we were grappling with the harsh reality of homelessness and the thought that having children might forever remain a distant dream, Through multiple prophetic revelations, we were offered hope that we could never have foreseen – the revelation of our daughter, Kara. The first revelation occurred during a prophetic training where God gave Adrian a vision of a young girl who was jump roping outside of our future house. This vision was so vivid that it might as well had been a memory of sometime time before. The second revelation was given from a prophetess who blessed my womb and declared that we will have a child. Talk about confirmation. Two divine instances that we had no control over, both confirming we would have a child. These revelations marked a pivotal moment in our journey, serving as a lasting testament to the remarkable resilience of faith, despite enduring numerous trials and a prolonged period of homelessness.

After years of not even fathoming having a child any time soon, we finally were getting back on our feet, but still were not in a position to think about having a child, not in our circumstances. However, another significant event that profoundly influenced our journey to parenthood was Adrian's sudden cardiac arrest in 2018. This life-altering experience ignited another faith movement, but this time it was one of trying to conceive. At that moment, we may not have been in the most ideal place (literally and figuratively), residing in a modest one-bedroom apartment, but we placed our trust in God's loving provision. Our previous struggles in our wilderness season taught us that it's ok to not have everything together, as long as you place your faith in God and believe that he will see you through your circumstances.

After 11 years of marriage, the arrival of our daughter was not just a joyous event, it was a pivotal life change that strengthened us as husband and wife. We realized the importance of nurturing our relationship and understood that marriage is about us building a foundation on love and the unbreakable bond we share, so we can be the best parents we can be.

When our “bear” arrived, we made sure that her name resonated with the faith and blessing she embodied, so she was given the middle-name "Lael," meaning "of God" or "Belonging to God."

We truly believe that our journey highlights the benefits of becoming parents after the age of 35. With age comes wisdom and life experience we bring to our parenting journey every day! We're not saying that to be good parents, you must be over the age of 35, or that if you do have children earlier in life, you may be at some disadvantage. The point is about your faith in God, no matter the circumstances. Being parents has brought us immeasurable joy. Our daughter is a beautiful blend of our personalities and she has enriched our lives with a sense of purpose and fulfillment. However, without faith in God and his promises, we may have never experienced this immeasurable joy.

God's timing is always perfect. He may choose to delay our blessings to prepare us to be the best versions of ourselves when those blessings eventually arrive. So, if you find yourself in a season of waiting, remember that God's plans are filled with goodness and love. Your delay may just be training for the blessing you so earnestly seek. Trust that your patience will pay off in ways you may not have seen coming.
